Three-car capacity is not a fixed roof width. It depends on the actual three vehicle widths, between-vehicle clearance, outside access space and the structure’s verified clear width.
Using the current CarportFit planning defaults, three midsize-car presets side-by-side require about 29.6 ft of clear width before any extra storage zone is added. That number comes from three 6.2-ft vehicle widths, 2.5 ft of outside clearance on each side and two 3-ft gaps between vehicles.

The current VersaTube Classic 30×20×7 record publishes a 30-ft roof/exterior width and 20-ft roof length, while the frame length is 18 ft. Its ground-to-truss clearance is about 6 ft 11¼ in. However, CarportFit does not store a verified clear width for that configuration, so it remains a multi-vehicle shopping class, not a guaranteed three-car fit.
This is exactly why three-car pages should not reduce the decision to “buy 30×20.”

A nominal three-car-width structure may be more valuable as two comfortable parking bays plus tools, motorcycles, lawn equipment or charging space.
A 30×40 class can add depth for storage or mixed use, but configured installed systems need exact provider drawings and site confirmation.
Large shipped kits can provide stable exact product records, but installed providers often offer broader width/height/roof combinations and may be more practical once the project needs custom enclosure, engineering or site-specific configuration. Measure the three vehicles first. A structure should earn the three-car label from usable geometry, not from marketing width.

There is no universal width. Add the actual widths of all three vehicles, outside-side clearance and two between-vehicle gaps. The result is the clear width the structure must provide, not merely the nominal roof width.
No. A 30-foot roof can have less usable width because of posts, framing or other geometry. Three vehicles may also require more than 30 feet of clear width depending on vehicle size and access clearance.
It may be a relevant shopping class, but verify the exact clear width and the required depth for the vehicles. CarportFit does not label a 30×20 product a verified three-car fit when the critical clear-width evidence is missing.
A 30×40 class provides substantially more depth and can support storage, equipment or other layouts, but the site, post geometry, purchase path and exact configuration still determine whether it is appropriate.
