Wind-Rated Carports: MPH Claims, Anchoring & Evidence

A wind-speed number is not a universal certificate. Compare the exact configuration, calculation/test basis, anchoring, enclosure assumptions and local design requirement before relying on a carport wind claim.

MPH alone is not enough

Two products can both advertise a wind speed while relying on different standards, assumptions, geometry and anchoring. Current Arrow pages state up to 100 MPH and explain that the figures assume a standalone, securely anchored structure, with calculations referenced to ASCE 7-05 on the family page. VersaTube publishes exact-configuration values such as 130 MPH on several Classic kits and states that ratings assume a completely and securely anchored frame. Canopia publishes lower product-specific tested wind values on some aluminum/polycarbonate models.

CarportFit preserves the published basis and does not sort a 130-MPH label above a 100-MPH label as though every manufacturer used an identical design method.

Installed “certified” configurations are a different purchase path

Current installed-provider listings can advertise wind/snow packages and engineered drawings for configured buildings. For example, Carport Central currently markets certified configurations with location-dependent wind/snow claims and included anchoring/bracing.
